How are you at taking something mediocre and making it stand out? I know I need improvement, but I am getting better at that little game!
A recent fun find was a 10-dollar soft felt hat at what we call a "dime store." I took it home, added pink ribbon and one of my flower pins (both can be taken off easily and switched up), and I love the result! The hat is much more interesting now!
The gray dress needs a slip, more due to static than see-thru, but instead of a regular slip, I added a lined but lightweight, silky, polka-dot skirt underneath. I love layering!
Hats!! Be still my heart! Why did women stop wearing them?

Tights: Target

I love OLD. I love VINTAGE. There's a bit in every early decade of the 20th century that appeals to me. The cloche reminds me of the 1920s, but a hat is a hat is a hat. How about some pictures to inspire us?

I know it's the 12th hour, but think I'll head over to Not Dead Yet Style and link up!

Love that dress! The cloche is probably my favorite style of hat! So timeless, I love how you've added your own touch to yours. :-)
ReplyDeleteHello Dear! I like your blog so much! Would you like to follow each other? :)

ReplyDeleteHello, nice to meet you, do not believe what I liked your style and your blog is great!. They look so romantic hat I'm dying, with those precious images as typical autumn leaves ..
I'm happy, I would love you to follow me back and so to keep in touch. I hope you will be excited as I am.
Spend a good week.
Hugs color
I do love a cloche, and in fact adore 20's fashion...but it doesn't suit a busty lass like me!
ReplyDeleteNice touch with the pink ribbon and pink tights! PINK! Haven't worn pink for a bit, I think I need a fix!

Ooh fabulous idea for the hat! I'm still learning how to wear hats. I have a small head and most hats are too large/too small. Your additions really make the hat a fabulous piece. My favorite hats are cloches, but I like many styles!
ReplyDeleteLove the whole outfit and your hair!
ReplyDeleteYou look beautiful and you made this hat so much better with the ribbon and flower.
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is so lovely, and perfect. I love the twisted front of your dress, the pink tights, and the lovely, lovely hat you embellished.
ReplyDeleteI need to work on the whole upgrading my mediocre thang :P
I love how you've embellished that hat! I have a similar one in wine that I never wear because it's too boring - such a great idea!
ReplyDeleteI am so happy that you made it to Patti's link up today! You look ethereal in your photos. Lovely! I look forward to reading other posts.

That's gorgeous! You have this wonderful historic vibe in your posts, and even in your Etsy shop. I don't know why women stopped wearing hats other than the thought that maybe they thought they were too constricting and related that to feeling constricted in their every day life. But honestly, I feel better in hats, and even with the more years I accumulate.
ReplyDeleteThis works in so many ways. I have hats that I wear only in the winter depths. I get dreadful hat hair, and they are often just too warm to keep on indoors. But I have a black cloche and a brown one, each with a floaty feather on one side. Those seem to work better after the coat comes off.
ReplyDeleteLike most fashions, things go out and come back in, and I suppose hat wearing is just another example. I agree with Joni, I expect it was part of the 1960s rejection of conventional dressing and a yearning for a greater self-expression which marked young women out as different from their mothers. I remember older women still wearing hats, especially on formal occasions, when I was a child.
ReplyDeleteAnd now, wearing a hat is a statement of individual style, since social convention doesn't tell us we have to do so anymore.
Your cloche is so pretty with your embellishments. I wish it was a style that suited me, but alas, it is not to be... Love the layering of your dress over the skirt too. xxxx
Hats have never been away in my world (or Jon's, he loves a good hat, too). They never fail to create an impression.
ReplyDeleteThat cloche style suits you and I love the tights. x
I love the hat - cloche hats really suit you! I wish we wore more hats, they'd cover up a multitude of hair sins. Great idea with the underskirt too x
ReplyDeleteYou did it up just right so why are you asking us? Hahaha. I love the punch of color with the hat ribbon and stockings. Color, color, color. You look vintagey pretty and I love cloche hats, found one recently with a feather on it. There's an idea...add a feather. dawn suitcase vignettes xo
ReplyDeleteOhhh, love the idea of the feather!!! xoxo Lynn
Deletenice outfit. Hats are awesome, but I have a big head and most vintage (and new ones) don't fit my noggin. I do wear berets and knit hats when it's cold.
ReplyDeleteWhat a soft and beautiful romantic look, Lynn! Wow! I am so in the market for more hats - thanks for the inspiration, xoxo
ReplyDeletereally great inspirations for a cute outfit, I love the combination of grey and pink and the vintage touch of that look!
ReplyDeleteI adore this outfit you're wearing. The hat is perfect with it and your embellishments make it even more lovely, especially with the tights. The last photo inspires me to look for a hat like that.
ReplyDeleteThat hat is amazing and I adore the hair knot, they are beautiful together!Your accessories made that gray dress outstanding!

Wow you look so gorgeous in that outfit! Fantastic hat - you totally rocking it!!!You look positively pretty..
ReplyDeleteI love what you've done with the hat. And that knot in your hair!! Have you ever done a post on your hair care? Mine isn't quite as long as yours, but it is getting long enough that I struggle with it at times.
ReplyDeleteHi Terri! I have another blog, www.amothersjournal.com on which I have done some tutorials. You can see them in the sidebar there. I have pages also on a website I run. http://www.thehealthyhomeschool.com/longhair.html
DeleteThanks for asking!
