Thanks to Megan of Megan Mae Daily, I truly challenged myself this week.
It was a good thing, too. I affirmed some things that I thought I knew. I discovered some things that I did not know!
I did affirm that my hips are larger than I'd like, but who's looking? I affirmed that mustard is a color that is never in my wardrobe! I just do NOT look good in yellow. Of. Any. Shade. I finally decided that perhaps it's not so bad at the back of my head! I took the famous black cloche (see last post) and retrimmed it with a quickly made-up, mustard yellow fabric brooch.
Friday's challenge was gray, so I decided to make one big photo shoot of the gray and the mustard and try several different looks!
In the search for yellow at Goodwill, I was taken into some sections that I normally just sweep past; namely, the suits and the yellow section!
I found some gorgeous things while looking and cannot wait to share some of them with you! Today's posting is not the most dramatic and the photos are not prize worthy, but I did want to share some of the things I discovered and see what you think about the different looks.
It is totally amazing the difference that just changing out a skirt or a hat or a blouse can make!
Gray knit dress: Mossimo Supply, thrifted
Tights: Kohl's Apt. 9, new
Jacket: I.N. Studio, thrifted
White shirt: Limited, thrifted
Shoes: Jellypop, new
Hat: New from Roses
Brooches: Handmade
There were a couple of other ways I tried to work mustard in that were not so bad.
One was to take a couple of fabric brooches and pin them on a black vest. The whole look of this outfit was rather austere, except of course for the punch of yellow!
But it did have the Annie Oakley Wild West look that I so much love! I think I'd be a wild cowgirl if I went back in time. Well, okay, maybe not, but I would love the clothes!!
In thinking that the brown skirt was just too drab, I did find a rose covered rayon skirt with a touch of mustard in the middle of some of the roses.
Hair up and belt added, I feel I could pass for a librarian or schoolmarm.
Brown linen skirt: Apostrophe, thrifted.
Rosey skirt: Carole Little, thrifted
Boots: Steve Madden, new.
White blouse: Spiegel, thrifted.
Black vest: No tag, thrifted.
Belt: Guess, thrifted.
Brooches: Handmade
Thanks to Megan and Keely for the challenge.

Your top photo with those amazing tights and decorated cloche, and your Annie Oakley outfit are especially wonderful, but these looks are all fabulous! Wonderful bohemian coat and puff-sleeved blouse, too. Good for you for experimenting, nicely done! xoxo
ReplyDeleteThanks, Amber! This challenge was great for me! I learned a lot more about how I want to dress! xoxo Lynn
DeleteI'm not seeing librarian or school marm; I'm seeing disciplined owner of a wild-west bar in a gold mining town. In a good way! Your statement that mustard looks good on the back of your head - LOL! You look brilliant in all of these looks.
ReplyDeleteMelanie, I think we best keep damaging things behind us. Ha ha. As for your assessment of wild west bar, I like it! xoxo Lynn
DeleteI don´t think I own any grey clothing.
ReplyDeletei love , love your floral skirt so much, Dylan.

Thanks for that! Wait til you see the whole outfit -- it has a top with it! xoxo Lynn
Deleteweirdly, i'm after a similar skirt on ebay, it's lovely! I like you in grey but you could definitely add some more mustard, I think it'd suit you. Never rule out a colour. Oh and i love those patterned tights with the sandals, rather Japanese
ReplyDeleteClare, thanks!! I love yellow and wish I felt like I looked okay in it, but sallow sallow sallow. Whew! XOXO Lynn
DeleteYour grey day look is so so incredible! I love the seaming on the dress, the fabulous tights and that to-die-for coat. The florals are so soft and pretty.
ReplyDeleteHi Megan! Thanks so much, and thanks for hosting this! And the coat -- your are right. It is amazing! Was definitely a 4-dollar keeper! xoxo Lynn
DeleteThe jacket and waistcoat are awesome - you make a great cowgirl! I can totally see you getting into steampunk.
ReplyDeleteOh Sheila, I love steampunk!! I am leaning more and more towards it! xoxo Lynn
DeleteThese are all things I'd love to wear myself Lynn, especially that waistcoat and the flowery skirt. You look very young and pretty in the cream dress and patterned tights too.The mustard certainly works against the black on you. I love yellow myself but not all shades work on me either, I'm pale so can't wear it too bright. xx
ReplyDeleteOh, me too on the yellow! I am sallow and also pale and anything pale yellow does not do well on me. Maybe the bright yellow that I called mustard I could get by with. I will try perhaps? xoxo Lynn
Deletelove the dress and tights

Thanks, Megan!
DeleteI love grey, it works so well with bright colours. Love all your outfits especially the rose print skirt and waistcoat, you look like a hip Victorian transported to the future. x
ReplyDeleteYay, another grey fan!! Thanks vix!
DeleteI love that final show, with your hair up, and those amazing sleeves, Wild West saloon bar girl meets Victorian governess, lovely!
ReplyDeleteYou do look good in the dress and funky tights, and in your lovely hat, of course. I think you could take yellow/mustard, why do you dislike it so much? You could always try tights or a skirt, to keep it away from your face, if you think it doesn't work with your skin tone. Experiment and show us, Lynn, I dare you! xxxx
Oh, Curtise, I may have to accept the dare and show you! My skin has yellow undertones and is very sallow some days. I have to be careful of anything that is in the yellow family. I just look awful in yellows and some greens! There is an absolutely amazing different in the color my skin looks when I wear stark white versus a pale yellow/cream color! Thanks for your comment!! xoxox Lynn
DeleteLynn, that schoolmarm look is fantastic on you, the vibrant floral is gorgeous and paired with the vest and belt are really impressing me. Amazing hair too. dawn suitcase vignettes xo
